3 Things You Must Know About Discount Travel Sites

This article is going to be radically honest here and expose some realities we keep telling our friends and families about. You deserve to know.

Why are we revealing these truths?

surprised_cat

  1. You deserve to know
  2. The world will be a better place
  3. Saving you time and money while having the time of your life is what we do at All Inclusive Vacations

Who needs to read this:

  1. Anybody who is going on a vacation or traveling for pleasure
  2. Families and newlyweds looking for a destination wedding or all inclusive vacation
  3. Frugal and money-conscious travelers who care about getting the optimal price and experience.
  4. Anyone who cares about saving money and traveling without headaches

Ok, if you’ve made it this far then you’re ready to here what we believe everyone deserves to know: THE TRUTH about booking vacation packages and flights with these huge discount travel sites (the Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity conglomerate corporations out there).

So without further ado, here are the 3 important things you should know:

1. Watch out for their hidden fees

Book a package with any of these sites and you’ll be surprised at the strange new fees tacked on right before check out. These sites will often advertise a reduced price to attract visitors, but often times they will exclude tax or transfer fees. These additional costs can sometimes spike the price up to 50% — how does that sound to you? Personally, we’re not that into surprises when it comes to dollars.

Solution: Make sure you know what the FINAL price is before committing to any package. Do yourself a favor and call a travel expert (call us) and make sure you’re actually getting a good deal.

2. They promote undesirable rooms during slow seasons

The big discount travel sites love to promote specials and discounts at bargain prices but don’t forget the old American saying, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” The truth is these special priced discounts are often for bad weather seasons or the rooms nobody else wants! So why the heck would you want ‘em?

Solution: Find out exactly what you’re getting by double-checking the rooms available and how your package compares to the rest. Do some research and find out how the weather will be where you’re going.

3. Poor customer support leaves you hanging

Luckily the big conglomerates have cleaned up their act a bit in the last few years (mostly due to terribly high complaints by customers) but their support still remains below average. Their customer support is typically outsourced to another country and you will often find it difficult to get your questions answered in a timely manner. Your time is precious to you, but not to them unfortunately. Maybe you’re thinking, “It’s just business baby” — but we don’t think that’s a worthy excuse. Life is precious, time is precious, and it’s simply unexcusable to waste your time waiting for someone to half-answer your questions.

Solution: We wish this was an easy one to solve, unfortunately you don’t have too many good options for avoiding this if you deal with one of the big discount travel sites. Our best advice is to find a travel expert who can match or beat their prices (like AllInclusiveVacations.com).

Don’t worry, there is hope. Here is the ideal situation:

As a traveler, I want the best price. That is very important to me.

Local travel professionals and tour operators offer prices 15-35% cheaper than the large “discount” travel sites. (As a side note: We even offer a price match guarantee so you have the peace of mind knowing you’ll never find a better price)

As a traveler, I don’t want to get stuck in a crappy room or be at a resort during hurricane season. I came here to have a good time!

Talk to us or any travel expert to make sure you get the best recommendation. When you work with someone who actually cares about you, and they have their reputation on the line, you’re probably going to get your answers.

As a traveler, I want support and help. You’re here to serve my needs!

Exactly! It’s hard to get your voice heard by large companies — if you can find the best recommended package at the best price, why would you go elsewhere?

7 Epic Facts About the Caribbean

The Caribbean seas — one of the most majestic corners of the tropical world. Seriously — we aren’t even trying to hype this place up, it is a place full of breathtaking views. Made for romance, love, and a stress-free good time away from your everyday life.

But you already knew that, didn’t you? Here are seven epic facts about the Caribbean (with two B’s, not carribean!)

1. It was accidentally’d by Christopher Columbus.

You’ve heard the old tale, “In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue…” But did you know that he wasn’t really looking for America? He was trying to find the Indies! That’s history-language jargon for India/Asia. He found land, what is today called the West Indies, but thought it was Asia. Go figure.

2. The cuisine is a spicy mix of African, Asian, and Spanish

Because of the colonial conquests and trade around the world, Caribbean cuisine is based on African, Spanish, East Indian, and Chinese cuisine. You’ll find a lot of spices, peppers, and seasoning used — typical of most meals in Africa, India, and China.

For example, Roti, a popular dish in the Carribeans is made with curries and spices just like its East Indian “ancestry” (food doesn’t really have an ancestor, but you know what we mean).

3. The Festivals are Epic

The Caribbeans have their fair share of festivities and fun. I mean, it’s a tropical vacation paradise, of course the people are going to enjoy life! The biggest festival that most of the isles participate in is Carnival. During Carnival, the people of Antigua, Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica, and Dominican Republic party hard. With lots of costumes, colors, music, and dancing, the carnival party is the biggest party in the Caribbean seas! It takes place just before the sacred Lent season begins.

Other festivals include Tumba Festival and St. Patrick’s Day — and no, they’re not undercover Irish.

4. Only 2% of the islands are populated by humans.

Wow! This one catches a lot of people off guard. That’s right — all these beautiful vacation destinations PLUS all the native residences altogether barely make up 2% of the total land in the Caribbean islands! That means for every beautiful beach you can relax on, there are another 98 that nobody is inhabiting.

Sounds like a lot of adventures to be had.

5. Don’t be Haiti’ng on Voodoo — it’s a big thing here!

You’ve heard of voodoo right? Probably from a movie or something? Well it’s everywhere in Haiti — and I mean that in the sense that many of the locals take it very seriously.

Why? A lot of the African slaves brought over to the islands came from places in Africa where witchcraft and voodoo was popular and accepted. Today it’s still respected and honored.

6. More than just sands and palm trees.

Most people imagine the Caribbean islands as beautiful sandy beaches with lots of tall palm trees. Nothing about that image is untrue. But it’s not the whole picture.

Many of the islands in the Caribbean sea are known for having abundant natural resources like bauxite, oil, asphalt, nickel, and iron ore. These are mined all over the world because they’re used to create energy and build cities.

Tropical fruits are also a huge export of the area — include cocoa, bananas, and coffee. Jamaica is known for their great bananas. Next time you’re there, make sure to ask for a banana milk smoothie. Mmm.. yummy.

9. Number one destination for Tourism

Surprise surprise! The Caribbeans is world-famous for its sands, beaches, and tropical lifestyle. It’s no wonder that it is one of the most popular destinations for all inclusive vacations in the world. Americans from the midwest, including Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Detroit, and more, all love escaping to this tropical destination.

The Caribbeans are a favorite of global vacationers for a reason. If you haven’t been there, what are you waiting for?

P.S. As all inclusive resort experts, we recommend Caribbean packages to our customers every day! Our sales are almost always cheaper than what you’ll find elsewhere online, so give us a call 888-463-7603 and we’ll help plan your escape 🙂

5 Tips on Packing For The Caribbean

When visiting the Caribbean, there is much more to packing than remembering sunscreen, a bathing suit and a camera. Most travelers choose the Caribbean to relax, but it is hard to do so if important details are forgotten. Keep these helpful tips in mind when packing for a visit there.
[two_third]

  1. Bring bug spray with DEET. This is a must for any tropical climate. There are tiny flying insects in tropical climates that can easily wiggle through screens, but only spray with DEET will keep them away. Be sure to buy pump bottles that are TSA compliant, or pack a larger pump bottle in a checked bag.
  2. Pack comfortable shoes. Flip-flops will work for short distances, but most people want to walk on the beach, wade in the water or take a hike while on vacation. Choose lightweight shoes that are breathable. They should dry fast as well if they will be worn in the water.
  3. Bring light clothing. The sun is intense in the Caribbean, and dark colors will absorb it and intensify it. Lighter colors are advised. Bring lightweight clothes that breathe easy, because it is also humid. Avoid bringing anything camouflage, which is actually illegal in some parts of the Caribbean.
  4. Take an umbrella and coat. A raincoat with a hood and a light umbrella may be needed. There are often evening storms in the Caribbean, and sometimes they happen during the day as well. Be sure to bring plastic or waterproof bags for any items that cannot get wet such as important travel documents, cameras, cell phones and other electronics.
  5. Remember a first aid kit. First aid supplies are not always readily available in some areas. Be sure to pack a kit, but make sure it is TSA compliant when bringing only a carry-on bag.

Travelers who have prescriptions for controlled substances should advise their doctors of travel in advance to discuss a plan of action if medications are lost or stolen. Also, make sure identification and travel documents are kept close at all times.

Top 5 Places to Explore in Caribbean

Not too long ago, we pieced together a Mini Cancun Bucketlist. That got us wondering what adventures lie hidden in the Caribbean Islands. Join us as we explore the top 5 must-see attractions when visiting the Caribbean.

Dunns River Falls

dunns river fallsIf you are in Jamaica then you have got to visit the gorgeous natural attraction at Dunns River Falls. Whether you are looking for excitement or you prefer relaxing running waters, this spot has plenty to offer. Lonely Planet, a well-respected travel blogging network, has called the collection of waterfalls at Dunns River one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Dunn’s River Falls & Park puts it this way, “Dunn’s River Falls is one of Jamaica’s national treasures. Globally, it is as well known as reggae and equally stimulating. There are few places where the Arawak name “Xayamaca” – land of rivers and springs – is more apt.” Do you want to stay near Dunns River Falls? Consider Beaches Ochos Rios, Riu Ocho Rios or Sandals Grande Riviera.

Basilica Catedral Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia

Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia“Heavenly!” “Beautiful and miraculous!” “Serene!” “Gorgeous” Those are the words used when visitors try and describe the Basilica Catedral Nuetra Senora de la Altagracia (Trip Advisor). Unlike a trip to a natural waterfall or a deep sea scuba diving expedition, the Basilica Catedral will cause you to pause and reflect on how incredible of a vacation you’re on! Two resorts close to the cathedral are Riu Palace Macao and Barcelo Bavaro Palace.

Pomier Caves

pomier cavesOff the beaten path quite a ways, nestled in a natural national preserve, is a collection of 55 caves that house over 6,000 ancient drawings. These drawings are not just any old graffiti, but art that is dated around 2,000 years old! That said, if you want to visit something a little more daring than a sanctuary or rolling waters, then take a trip just west of Santo Domingo and visit the Anthropological Reserve of Cuevas del Pomier. Here is a list of Santo Domingo resorts featured at All Inclusive Vacations.

Moilinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park

underwater sculptureFrom caves to corals, our journey continues but now moving to what is quite possibly the world’s most impressive man-made series of underwater sculptures — Moilinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park. Put on your wetsuit, dawn your scuba mask and squeeze your feet into your flippers because you’ve got a lot to see below the surface of the water! If you’d like to plan your visit before you visit the Windward Islands, there is a wonderful map of the underwater sculptures at underwatersculptures.com. And if you are looking for a place to stay in between submersions, we strongly encourage the luxury lifestyle of the completely one-of-a-kind Sandals Grenada.
